Missing vacations…and cacti

I’ve been thinking a lot about the past vacations we’ve been on (thanks in part to Facebook memories). We have been on some incredible adventures, and the part I miss the most isn’t necessarily the destination (although I’d LOVE a beach right now), but more so the memories we’ve made with family and friends. People who know me know that I love cacti. I can’t really explain why I like them so much aside from their natural beauty, but cacti do bring me back to some of those wonderful vacations. When I was designing for my Flowering Cactus class, I specifically reflected on a girls trip to Scottsdale Arizona. This was back in 2007 (pre-kids). It is perhaps here where my love for cacti grew. This was a trip where I was introduced to coffee, specifically a Starbucks Caramel Macchiato which became my go-to drink for 10 years. We visited the Grand Canyon, a place called The Hole in the Rock and we went ATV-ing in Sedona (red rock country). Throughout that trip, we experienced new things together, had meaningful conversations, consumed a ton of wine and got to connect with each other. Then life happened and some of us had kids, new jobs, etc. We are all still good friends to this day and I truly hope that we can meet up and travel somewhere again soon…preferably a place with cacti 😉

So here’s another Flowering Cactus card, the layout was inspired by the lovely Patty Bennett. I especially love the way she used the Forever Gold Laser-Cut Specialty Paper on this card. Rather than using the gold shiny side, she flipped it over to to use the plain white side. The Flowering Cactus Designer Series Paper fills up the card nicely, and I cut out my cacti from one of its sheets. The felt flowers finish off the card with some much-needed colour and texture!

The sentiment is perfect and I would love to receive all the cactus cards for my birthday. I am putting it out there in the universe! October 1st is my birthday…just sayin’.

Enjoy the Easter long weekend friends!
